Q. I read that Ashwaganda is great for stimulating the thyroid, and making weight loss easier, is this true and are there any bad side effects to taking this? Also, what are your thoughts on Cortislim, and Relacore, can these be used while taking Ashwaganda?
Asked by Mary on April 28, 2005.A. Ashwagandha root formulations stimulate thyroid gland activity by increasing antioxidant enzyme activity. According to National Library of Medicine, "Furthermore, ashwagandha root extract significantly reduced hepatic lipid peroxidation, whereas the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase and catalase were increased. These findings reveal that the ashwagandha root extract stimulates thyroidal activity and also enhances the antiperoxidation of hepatic tissue."
Ashwagandha may have calming (sedative) qualities, be sure you understand how ashwagandha affects you before driving or doing any other activity that requires total alertness.
